What I miss about the States:

Friends, family, and stores that are open for more than 6 hours a day.

That about sums it up.

PS - It was great seeing our friends and family while we were back for a visit.  We miss and love all of you guys!

Why _YOU_ should run Linux

Most everybody who knows me knows that I run Linux on all of my computers.  So why am I advocating that _you_ should run Linux as well?  Here's why:

1)  It's free.  Yep, that's right, $0, commonly referred to "free as in beer".  And you don't have to feel guilty about it (as opposed to running Windows for "free").

Busy... ish

I realized it had been a while since I had posted anything.  So here's a quick update.

Jonathan keeps growing.  And smiling.

The weather is getting really warm here.  It's between 70 and 80 F day and night.  I really enjoy this kind of weather and am trying to soak it all in before it moves from just right to too warm to way too hot.

Smiley Baby

Watching our little Jonathan grow up is getting to be so fun!  He keeps getting bigger and bigger and discovering new things every day.

He's discovered that he likes sucking on things, including but not limited to: daddy's finger, daddy's bicep while being held, his thumb, his whole hand, anything else that gets near the mouth.  And he has got some strong suction!!

He's slept as much as 6.5 hours in a night.  Yay!  Though some nights he will still wake up every 2-3 hours, he's averaging around 4.5.

Agh! Growing too fast!!

As many of you may or may not have been able to tell by my last post, I was sick last week.  It wasn't anything serious, but it seemed to cling for a while.  I started feeling sick Monday and kept fluctuating between good and not good until Friday.  We weren't taking any chances, however, and I had to stay away from little Jonathan David the whole time.

Why fevers suck so bad...

  1. You feel super hot.
  2. If you try to cool down, you get super cold.

On being a father

Wow.  In five days our little Jonathan David is going to be a month old.  It's hard to believe that so much time has flown by!  But it certainly has been an adventure!

Intellectual Property tax

I just read a great idea over at Slashdot: putting a property tax on Intellectual Property.

Now, some of you may not even know what Intellectual Property is.  But it sufficeth me to say that it has been causing a lot of problems.  This guy hits it right on the head and provides what I believe to be an excellent solution.

Building up a Righteous Posterity

Today at church, we watched the entire worldwide leadership training broadcast entitled "Building up a Righteous Posterity".   It was really good!  I highly recommend it to anybody and everybody (LDS or not).

Cuban entertainment?

Yesterday Toshiba announced the death of HD DVD.  Shortly after, Fidel Castro announced that he was effectively retiring from being President of Cuba.

Coincidence?
