On Tuesday, I took Jonathan to a playgroup. He tottered about playing with toys more or less ignoring me. The lady next to me was holding a little baby, and she let me hold him.

As I held this little one, Jonathan came up and stared. He look at the baby. He looked at me. And was very quiet...Then he let out a squawk and launched himself at me. He had his first little lesson on how babies needed to be treated with very soft hands. Jonathan leaned against my legs staring intently until I gave the baby back. Climbing into my lap, he claimed his mommy as his own and refused to leave his post. I spent the rest of the playgroup with him either in my lap or keeping a very close eye on me making sure I didn't get far away from him.

Reflecting upon this later, I wondered if he was jealous. Then I thought it more probable that he was a bit dumbfounded at me holding a little baby wondering what the little one was doing in my lap for I was 'his' mommy.
