Quick learner

Two days ago, Jonathan actually left the safety of the coffee table and took two steps all on his own. Then yesterday, at Bob and Haley's flat, he took 5 steps. At work this morning, I got an IM from Cheri saying that he just took 11 steps. And by the time I got home, he could walk around as long as he wanted.

I knew he could walk once he got the confidence, but that was so quick! I don't know if I was quite ready to say goodbye to my crawling baby just yet. But ready or not, our little man is growing up.

Walking and Dancing

It seems that Jonathan is just determined to grow up no matter how much Mommy and Daddy would like him to stay little. He has been able to walk for a couple of months now; he just lacks the courage. It's really funny to watch him stand all by himself when he is trying to reach something. But the moment he realizes what's happening, he'll either reach for something or go down to his bum. Here is a video of Jonathan playing with his new toy Grandma and Grandpa Tieken got for his first birthday:

One Year Older

Well, it was one year ago almost to the minute that little Jonathan David Carlson was born. Wow, I still vividly remember that night... mostly. I mean, he did take almost two full days of labor to finally come, so we were all exhausted. But we were glad that he arrived safe and sound.

Standing tall

Our little baby is growing up so fast! I think he has decided that he doesn't want to be a "normal" crawler. I mean, he can do it. Mommy will be playing with him and he will crawl normal in that short time. And then *thunk*, back onto the stomach for the army crawl.

He sure does like to bounce too. The "jumparoo" that we got him makes it so that if he wants to bounce, he has to bounce himself. And bounce he does, all the time it seems, while being held or on his own.

Football and Goodbyes

Last week I got to see some BYU football thanks to a SlingBox, a brother who gets all the BYU games, and an internet connection. Even though I understand, probably better than most, how computers and networks and all that works, it still amazes me that I can cheer on the cougars at 2 am here in Cyprus.

Faces

Jonathan has many faces. His smiles are the greatest. Today, however, I've seen a new one. For some reason, he keeps crinkling up his nose on the left side of his face. It's really cute, but I have no idea where he got that from.

Daddy's boy

It seems that all we do anymore is tell people how Jonathan is doing. Hopefully that will change soon as I do want to add the "Hobbies" section that I mentioned a while back. It's just that I'm too busy actually doing the hobbies!

Cheri's favorite phrase

"He's so cute!"

Of course, she's talking about Jonathan (not me, as many of you probably thought).  But I hear the phrase at least twice a day.  Mommy sure loves her baby!

Smiley Baby

Watching our little Jonathan grow up is getting to be so fun!  He keeps getting bigger and bigger and discovering new things every day.

He's discovered that he likes sucking on things, including but not limited to: daddy's finger, daddy's bicep while being held, his thumb, his whole hand, anything else that gets near the mouth.  And he has got some strong suction!!

He's slept as much as 6.5 hours in a night.  Yay!  Though some nights he will still wake up every 2-3 hours, he's averaging around 4.5.

Agh! Growing too fast!!

As many of you may or may not have been able to tell by my last post, I was sick last week.  It wasn't anything serious, but it seemed to cling for a while.  I started feeling sick Monday and kept fluctuating between good and not good until Friday.  We weren't taking any chances, however, and I had to stay away from little Jonathan David the whole time.
